2009-2010 Season

We at the Roadside Theater, now in our 51st year, have planned another exciting season of plays, musicals and special events for the 2009/2010 Season of Shows!

Season Tickets for the new season will go on sale on Tuesday, Sept. 1.

New Beginning

A New One Act Play
Written and Directed by Michael Boyer

Audition Dates: Sept. 1 & 2, 2009 at 7 pm at the Roadside Theater
All auditions are open to male and female performers 18 years and up. No experience required.

Show Dates: Oct. 7 & 8 at 7:30 pm at the Off Main Street Theatre, Coleman Barracks, Mannheim

Come enjoy an evening of theater with preview performances of these two One Act Plays. Reservations are not required and admission is free. This event is recommended for mature audiences.

Both plays will represent the Heidelberg and Mannheim communities in the 2009 Festival of One Act Plays in Kaiserslautern on Oct. 9.

The Mystery of Irma Vep: A Penny Dreadful

Show Dates: Oct. 23, 24, 30 & 31 and Nov. 6 & 7 at 7:30 pm and Nov. 1 at 3 pm.

This rave, Off-Broadway hit is an hysterical spoof of Gothic melodramas. Two actors play all the roles in this quick change marathon. Haunted Mandacrest Manor on the howling moors is plagued by a host of horrors. What are Lord and Lady Hillcrest to do? A sympathetic werewolf, a vampire and an Egyptian princess brought to life make this a comedy that has everything. "Far and away the funniest two hours on a New York stage." N.Y. Times. A Fall Cabernet Cabaret

A Cabaret Performance by Ms. Andrea Huber at the Off Main Street Cabaret Theatre, Coleman Barracks

Show Dates: Nov. 13, 14, 20 & 22 at 8:00 pm (Wine and Cheese beginning at 7:30 pm)

This internationally known performer, Andrea Huber, will again grace our Mannheim Cabaret Stage this year with a marvelous musical evening. Come enjoy wine and cheese and the beautiful voice and charismatic performance of Andrea Huber.

Oliver!

Music, Lyrics and Book by Lionel Bart

Dec. 6 & 13 and Jan. 10 & 17 at 3 pm (Special Family Matinees)

Based on the beloved Charles Dickens novel, this Tony Award-winning musical tale is full of pathos, drama and wonderful musical numbers. Young Oliver is an orphan in the streets of Victorian London. His ongoing adventures include meeting the Artful Dodger and the dastardly criminal, Fagin. OLIVER! is a delightful holiday tale for the whole family.

Cats

This large musical calls for 20-30 male and female actors, singers and dancers from 14 years old and up.
All auditions are open and no experience is required.

Cats - Now and forever! Based on the beloved poetry of T.S. Eliot, Cats tells the story of the annual gathering of Jellicle Cats where one special cat is selected to ascend to the Heaviside layer. A magical evening of song and dance, Cats is a true musical phenomenon. It is one of the world's best known and best loved musicals, thrilling audiences of all ages.

Jake's Women

Auditions: Feb. 1 & 2 at 7 pm. This comedy requires 1 male (35-65 years), 6 women (35-65 years) and one young girl (11-20 years.)
All auditions are open and no experience is required.

America's premier comic playwright makes another hilarious foray into the world of modern relationships. Jake, a novelist who is more successful with fiction that with life, faces a marital crisis by daydreaming about the women in his life. The wildly comic and sometimes moving flashbacks played in his mind are interrupted by visitations from actual females. Jake's women include a revered first wife who was killed years earlier in an accident; his daughter who is recalled as a child but is now a young woman; his boisterous and bossy sister; an opinionated analyst; his current wife who is leaving Jake for another man; and a prospective third wife. Little Shop of Horrors

A down-and-out skid row floral assistant becomes an overnight sensation when he discovers an exotic plant with a mysterious craving for fresh blood. Soon "Audrey II" grows into an ill-tempered, foul-mouthed, R&B-singing carnivore who offers him fame and fortune in exchange for feeding its growing appetite, finally revealing itself to be an alien creature poised for global domination! One of the longest-running Off-Broadway shows of all time, this affectionate spoof of 1950s sci-fi movies is an awarding-winning, crowd-pleasing hit.
